Sure, TFCBy: Ben | June 21st, 2011
Seventeen games into the season, Toronto has only two wins. And that kind of sucks. Nobody in MLS circles can deny that since the loss of DeRo the club hasn’t been able to keep its head above water.
But there’s a reason I bring this up, and I don’t simply mean to take shots at a team that’s down. After losing to a ten-man Seattle on Saturday (their eighth straight winless game) Toronto coach Aron Winter was quoted saying, “In this league, everything is possible. I said at the beginning, we want to battle to get into the playoffs. That target is still in my mind.”
The playoffs, Aron? You honestly think that this is the year that TFC will finally find its way to the playoffs? Well, he reasons, “Nothing has changed, because if you win two games in a row, then it’s completely different on the standing…The East especially is very tight, so a win here and there, a lucky bounce here and there … with a good finish at the end of it and you get three points and that can get you right back into the race.”
No, sir, you can’t. Sure, you would tie Columbus for third place if you were to notch two consecutive wins and everyone else in the east were to lose, but that won’t hold. You need to work on your roster. You said it yourself, “My goal is still rebuilding to get a good team. I know what I need to get better results.” And I’m sure you’ll start doing that soon.
So, TFC, do I think you’ll make the playoffs? No, not right now. But prove me wrong. And if I’m not enough inspiration, check this kid out:
What do you think?
