Okay, Seattle Really Isn’t THAT BadBy: Ben | March 26th, 2011
The Sounder’s haven’t exactly started the season with a bang. They lost at home to LA in the MLS Firstkick, and then at New York the following weekend. They’ve let up three goals for every one that they’ve scored, and they’ve only scored once. It hasn’t been pretty.
But come on, it was LA and New York. In two games Seattle was up against Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez, and Juan Agudelo, just to name a few of the stars of two of MLS’s most dominant teams. LA and New York each won their respective conferences in 2010, and are each strong contenders for a repeat. Seattle has still yet to repeat the glory of its opening season.
The point is, Seattle may now be 0-2-1, but thats only because they had an opening schedule from hell. They’re a stolid team overall: Freddy Montero is a monster up front, the midfield is solidly led by Steve Zakuani, and Kasey Keller is one of the top keepers in the league. Sure, they may not be shooting for a Supporters Shield, but Seattle is definitely a middle-to-front- of the pack team. They’re just a team that the scheduling gods hate.
Obviously, this will clear out over the season. What do you think?
