Week One: Here we go!
By: travis | March 29th, 2008Well after months of offseason training, preparation, transfers, and oversea tours, I am proud to announce at 4:00 PM Eastern time, the 13th MLS season will kick off. Lots of questions linger and flow through in regards to each team. Can Houston threepeat? Will the Argentinians be good? Who will leave for Europe first? Countless thoughts run through the minds of US Soccer aficianados as they gear up for what could be the best season yet. I’m excited, that’s for sure.
To spice things up on the Offside, I am going to use my psychic powers and tell everyone who is going to win this weekend. Alright, I’m not psychic. But I am going to predict the games, just for fun. It’ll give people a place to come and make fun of me and my lack of knowledge on just about anything, as well as my general ineptness. I was going to include quick previews of each game, but those can generally be found on most team’s specific sites. Therefore, I’m limiting each explanation to one sentence. Without further ado, here we go:
Toronto v Columbus
The Crew look to get things off to a good start at home, while Toronto seeks improvement on a second season.
Verdict: Toronto 1, Columbus 2
Chicago v Real Salt Lake
Year two of Blanco begins, and everyone continues to wonder if Real Salt Lake can do anything.
Verdict: Chicago 3, RSL 0
Houston v New England
Nothing to be said more than this rematch of last year’s MLS Cup should be a barn-burner.
Verdict: Houston 1, New England 1
DC v Kansas City
Both teams had dramatic overhauls along with bringing in DPs from Argentina.
Verdict: DC 1, Kansas City 2
LA v Colorado
Blah blah blah, David Beckham, blah blah blah, can Christian Gomez turn around the Rapids?
Verdict: LA 2, Colorado 3
Chivas v Dallas
Chivas looks to remain the best LA team, Dallas looks to become best team from Texas.
Verdict: Chivas 1, Dallas 0
Don’t worry ladies and gents, someone will make picks all season. I just think random predictions in sports are heaps of fun, so why not do them when you can.

Oh, Lord. I just checked the score for the Galaxy game. I can’t cry, so I have to laugh.
I can’t leave these boys alone for a minute!

On the up side, Beckham played a pretty good game. His passes were super accurate and he had great vision. Unfortunately, LA needs some help with defense. The announcer kept going on about how many of the Galaxy players were jet lagged from international duty and the altitude of the stadium was making the ball bounce strangely, but I think they just plain gave up.
Not a good way to start the season!

You think Catherine-Lucia’s gonna post an apology? “Gee Travis, you were right about KC beating United.” I did it for her. Never mind.

Tough call on the Revs Dynamo remach, not even going to give the Revs some homefield advantage?
I was at the game, Dynamo didn’t have a shot from the kick. Revs played great, even without Twellman, they’ve got great young talent to fill in for injuries and such. Watch out.
