Weekly Wrap-up
By: travis | January 22nd, 2009So the season is just two months away. I know that things at MLS Offside have been slow — my bad. It’s a slow time of year, so I’m going to at least do one post a week. That’s where I’ll start, and I may do more, but check in here at least once a week to check in for all your MLS news and notes.
Camps across the country are opening, and it’s time to start paying close attention to the offseason wheelings and dealings that will take place between now and March 22. I’m getting excited already.
+Head over to Red Bulls Offside for all the bull, including the latest about RB Arena.
+Things are also chugging along at DC United Offside, and jon celebrates the opening day of training camp at RFK.
+Scott at FC Dallas checks in, lamenting about what Hyndman has done now — scaring Dax McCarty out of town.
+Kenny Deuchar is on his way out of Real Salt Lake, with the two sides splitting amicable. Meanwhile, young winger Robbie Findley is strutting his stuff for Danish power Brøndby IF. From the tone of the post, he’s expected to be back in town once camp gets underway. You never know.
+Ronnie O’Brien is pissed, and on his way out of town, and likely bidding goodbye to MLS. There had been a recent disagreement over O’Brien’s paycut. Could be a big loss for the Quakes.
+Since when does the Associated Press give a crap about MLS? Apparently, the Sounders are stirring things in an editor somewhere, and the resulting piece from George Bell is a good one — Seattle looks like it knows what it is doing.
+If you haven’t heard, LandyCakes continues his tear through Bayern’s opponents. Yes, it’s good, but they are friendlies. Bring this kind of game in the regular season, and you’ll soon be full-time Bayern.
+Jimmy Conrad and SF of The Offside Rules conducted an interview — over Facebook. Drink in the hilarity. Oh, and the Wizards progress closer to a stadium.
+Dewayne De Rosario was officially introduced as a TFC player today.
+Last but not least, the vote for Philly’s name has begun. Vote here if you care to.
I was trying to fit every team into this post. But alas, some teams just don’t have much to say at the moment. The Dynamo are the first team to play, with the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League taking place at the end of February. Preseason schedules are out for most teams, with action starting up soon enough. Hope everyone is ready!

Re: O’Brien. WTF Quakes WTF. Srsly. WTF. I get the feeling this year may be the year Lew Wolff cracks the whip and starts demanding they actually make some money!
