Week 26 – Primetime Preview

By: travis | September 18th, 2008

Columbus v New York
It’s an important match out in Columbus tonight, as the front running Crew host the Red Bull, who have been on a hot streak of their own. Guillermo Barros Schelotto is a recent injury concern, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him given another week off. In his absence it will be up to Pat Noonan and Robbie Rogers to be in more of a direct playmaking role.

On the Red Bull side of the ball, they’ve brought in a number of new players prior to the roster deadline, but have lost Dave van den Bergh for a few weeks because of a sports hernia surgery. As usual, the bulk of the offensive responsibility will fall to Juan Pablo Angel, who has experienced recent success against the Crew, scoring against them in the first match of the 2008 season. Along with Angel Jorge Rojas is a vital cog to Red Bull attack. A win tonight for New York would give them more breathing room in front of DC, and a better chance at the playoffs. However, even without Schelotto, the Crew will be too much for New York to handle.
