Portland joining too?
By: travis | March 18th, 2009Might the second team already be decided? Through various sources I’ve come across a post trying to rally up support for a “special announcement” in Portland. Make of it what you will, but I think this could be the real deal.
What: Rally and Press Conference Announcement
When: 9:30 a.m., Friday March 20
Where: Portland Hilton
921 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland OregonWhat we need to do: We need to take what we did with the MLS to PDX rally and be even louder, prouder, more drums, and even more noise. It looks like this is going to be the CELEBRATION we have all been waiting for!
The news is slowly being picked up by local media outlets — although officials are keeping quiet. Excerpt here:
Reports are surfacing that officials with the Portland Timbers and Major League Soccer have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning in Portland.
Neither a spokesman for MLS or Timbers owner Merritt Paulson would confirm the news conference Wednesday, but Timbers fans assume the news is good.
This is either the great news they’ve been waiting for or the end of their expansion hopes. Here’s hoping that they’re in. If I hear anything else, will have it up as I come across it.
UPDATE: This is looking very official now. Who will the next two teams be?
