Montreal 1-6 Toronto FC Highlights

By: travis | June 19th, 2009

I know that many have seen this already, but here are the highlights from Toronto’s incredible performance last night. For those of you unaware, Toronto needed to win by four to pass the Vancouver Whitecaps and clinch Canada’s CONCACAF Champions’ League spot. But things didn’t start off so well when newly acquired defender Nick Garcia gave up a penalty early on. Not to give anything else away, but these highlights are pretty incredible.

Who else is shocked by Toronto’s massive six-goal feat? Think they’ll do well now that they’ve grabbed a spot in the CCL? Does this give MLS a bit more ammo in the USL vs. MLS debate? Sound off below.

The final score is shocking, but watching the game it just started to feel inevitable that TFC would pull it off. They really put on the pressure and went all out in the Montreal end. I know its a lot to ask, but I’d really like to see TFC play that way more often in the MLS. They always seem too hestitant to attack or take any chances, but it looks like they can score goals if they take more risks.

Montreal’s keeper was horrible in 3 of the goals. Still, kudos to Toronto to beating them down.

Mark, true, that teams has the goods to score, but even San Jose has a more potent attack than Montreal right now. If TFC opens it up against even MLS opponents we’ll be seeing a lot of late season Liverpool like scorelines. I wouldn’t mind this, but the TFC defense just isn’t good enough to keep MLS attacks out of the net consistently if the team is playing wide open.

Even if this was the Impact’s “B” team… at least a League 2 (English 3rd Division) team can hold a Premiership team to a 2-1 score (I’m looking at Aston Villa’s “A” team in the FA Cup against a League 2 team)

No excuses for the 6-1 scoreline… for anybody (even USL-1 fans) that doubt the quality of MLS, particularly in Canada, the 6-1 score proves why Toronto is 1st Division, while the Impact are NOT.

This game was abviously fixed. I shouldn’t have taken much to purchase a couple of Montreal’s players to make it happen.

    sorry

The Montreal players didn’t look interested in playing any defense whatsoever.

Fixed, it was a Montreal Impact USL Reserve team against some of the best players in North America how can you say that the match is fixed it was just that Toronto had a better game. We don’t fix games here in North America
