MLS Offside Week Five Power Rankings
By: travis | April 22nd, 2009Not a whole lot of movement with the Power Rankings this week. Chivas is holding steady, and now have 13 points from a possible 15. That’s a great start considering the lineup he trots out on a weekly basis. The Galaxy is struggling at the bottom, holding the last spot with Dallas moving up with a win.

1. Chivas USA
Record: 4-0-1
Previous: 1
Comment: The Goats are holding steady. Not the most spectacular 2-0 win, but three points is three points right?
2. Chicago Fire
Record: 2-0-3
Previous: 2
Comment: The Fire can’t expect to contend for an MLS Cup if they continue to fall behind early/fail to close out late.
3. New England Revolution
Record: 2-0-2
Previous: 4
Comment: Moving up despite a draw against D.C. I think everyone needs to commend Steve Nicol for what he has done with so many injuries.
4. Seattle Sounders FC
Record: 3-2-0
Previous: 3
Comment: Back-to-back losses without Kasey Keller in net. Coincidence? I think not.
5. Kansas City Wizards
Record: 2-2-1
Previous: 7
Comment: Three game unbeaten streak going. You have to admit that their tie was a bit lucky, though they played well over the last 15 minutes.
6. Real Salt Lake
Record: 2-2-0
Previous: 5
Comment: Losing to a Red Bull team that hadn’t won isn’t terrible — what’s worse is their road woes continue.
7. Colorado Rapids
Record: 2-2-1
Previous: 6
Comment: A loss to Houston in a game they should have drawn. Conor Casey continues to be their only offense.
8. D.C. United
Record: 1-1-3
Previous: 9
Comment: Gritted out a draw in a game they dominated. Finishing was a bit wayward, but you have to commend the effort of Ben Olsen.
9. New York Red Bulls
Record: 1-2-2
Previous: 14
Comment: This is the Red Bulls I think many of us were expecting to show up at the beginning of 2009. A two-fer this weekend, as they travel to KC on Thursday and host D.C. Monday.
10. Toronto FC
Record: 1-2-2
Previous: 8
Comment: Losing to Dallas and now losing De Rosario for a few weeks. Let’s see how John Carver reacts.
11. San Jose Earthquakes
Record: 1-2-2
Previous: 10
Comment: Can’t close out a game once again. Seems to be their biggest problem right now.
12. Columbus Crew
Record: 0-2-3
Previous: 11
Comment: A time to rest and reflect on their slow start with an off weekend. Can they turn it around quickly?
13. Houston Dynamo
Record: 1-2-2
Previous: 13
Comment: Return to the old formula: Ching goal + Onstad heroics = Dynamo win.
14. FC Dallas
Record: 1-3-1
Previous: 15
Comment: The second time was the charm against Toronto, with Tim Weyland getting a heavy assist in their win Sunday.
15. Los Angeles Galaxy
Record: 0-1-3
Previous: 12
Comment: No wins still for the Galaxy. But no losses either. Is the glass half full or half empty?

Also: How the hell are the Fire in second? Yes, they’re playing pretty, yes, they’re deep. But they’re NOT WINNING GAMES!

That’s what happens when just TWO people vote. Three, because I tossed my opinion in. And made the fire second.

Little Correction: Columbus is 0-2-3. So for that can you put them below Galaxy, pretty please?
