Gotta Love Barca
By: Ben | December 11th, 2011I guess that one advantage of having a schedule that doesn’t match any other league’s in the world is that, while MLS teams take a brake over the winter, competitions in Europe are just starting to heat up. And just as even the most faithful husband can’t help but notice a pretty girl, it definitely isn’t treason (or Eurosnobbery, for that matter) for an MLS fan to enjoy a match between European teams. Take El Classico, last Sunday’s match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. These are two of the best teams in the world, bar none, and, even if I don’t support them out right, I definitely respect them. I would never wear anything but a Red Bulls jersey, but I’m still dazzled by the skill of Messi, Xavi, and David Villa, and there’s nothing wrong with that. So I ask you, my fellow MLS fans, to take my little challenge: watch a European game. And not to see why MLS is bad, or to try to convert you to the Dark Side of the American soccer support spectrum, but, frankly, because they’re fun to watch, and because there really isn’t much else to do. We have almost a full month until the next big MLS event, the Play Combine, and unless Beckham finally announces that he’s going to Paris, I can’t see much other major news popping up.
I leave you with this:
