MLS Gives Milan till Friday to Ante Up for Beckham
By: Laurie | February 11th, 2009I’ve been feeling for the Galaxy this preseason. It’s kind of hard to prep for your upcoming season when you don’t know if either of your two top stars will actually be on your team or not.
And as things stood, AC Milan had until March 9 to make a decision. That’s ten days before the start of the season.
No more. According to Soccer by Ives, MLS has given Milan a Friday deadline to make a valid offer.
Milan made an offer last week that was rumored to be about $10 million, which MLS and the Galaxy turned down. Newest rumors are saying that the two clubs might come to terms at around $20 million.
MLS commissioner Don Garber revealed on Wednesday that he has notified the Los Angeles Galaxy that if a transfer for David Beckham is not completed by Friday then MLS will not approve a transfer.
“There is no reason why this should drag on,” Garber said. “They either want to do it or don’t want to do it.”
“This Friday we need to know if they want to buy David Beckham or not.”
So MLS actually has cojones. Who woulda thought?
As a Galaxy fan, I couldn’t agree more. Let’s put this circus behind us, one way or another.
