Beckham (continued)
By: Dave Martinez | January 29th, 2009
Since this was such a popular discussion last time, I have another log to throw into the fire:
“I’m under contract and I have a lot of respect for the Galaxy. But the chance to play for Milan is something special,” Beckham said in the interview, which was published in Italian. “I knew I would enjoy it, but I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. But in terms of character, I’m a very respectful person.”
As I put on my Houdini hat, I predict a loan deal till June, a necessary July vacation for Becks to “rest,” and another season cut short.
Agree? No? Discuss . . .

If your prediction come true, the Galaxy should sue the very expensive designer jeans off him.

Well, Beckham’s certainly no saint, but I certainly don’t wish ill for him and it’s definitely not hard to see where he’s coming from.
He thought his European/International playing days were over, so he took (what I believe to be) valid ambitions and a big paycheck to come help publicize the sport in the USA w/ one of its best teams that was constantly competitive. The obligations he’s made for himself as an ambassador for the MLS are important and something it’d be a shame if he left behind, but you can’t expect athletes to turn out top notch performances w/ just money and “ambassador” responsibilities for motivation. They want to compete, win, be appreciated, etc. Also, Becks has always given a lot back to the game.
Poor management, a horrible record, and the inability to build a good team w/ the big salaries of Becks and Donovan on the roster have made this venture a bust. I don’t think it’s a mistake for either Beckham or the Galaxy to part ways, and hopefully they’d both come out better for it.

You know the best part about having admin and editor privileges on the blog? I can go and delete/edit any comments that, upon rereading, make me sound hysterical. (And yes, everyone else, this does mean that if you are gramatically anal and develop a rash when you accidentally include a typo in your own comment, I can fix it. But you have to be really nice to me.)
As you have probably guessed, the Beckham thing infuriates me. And for some reason what infuriates me most is the fact that Beckham allowed/encouraged/benefited from Milan’s selling of thousands and thousands of dollars of Beckham gear when he’s owned by the Galaxy not even on Milan’s squad.
I know I’m naive to think anybody (and especially Milan and Beckham) will turn down the opportunity to make piles of money when the opportunity presents, but geez. Bigamy is illegal in most parts of the world. Please wait to remarry till the divorce is final.
I think he’ll go, and I think it’s for the best for everybody. LA will suck this year, but hopefully they’ll get a boatload of money and can start rebuilding all of the damage that’s been done to the team since he was signed.
(And I know it makes me a horrible person, but because of the way this was handled — including the fact that apparently nobody even discussed the loan with the Galaxy until it was a done deal — I really hope Milan crashes and burns in the last half of the season.)

Would you consider exempting Paulo Maldini from any collateral damage during the crashing and burning please…he’s still so f*cking good at 40 it’s insane!
(The Galaxy/MLS/AEG whoever are getting a percentage of Beckham Milan shirt revenue, might be tiny don’t know, during the loan.)

Diane, Maldini is always worthy of an exemption. I’ll give him a double exemption if he’ll offer the HABs ladies exclusive shirtless photos.
(Wait. I didn’t actually really just say that.)

If Beckham goes back to Galaxy he is stupid. He is only great when he has great players around him. How could you turn down a spot in the starting XI with one of the most successful european clubs.
On the other hand if Donovan stays at Bayern Munich I fear for him again. He can’t cut it in Europe. He needs to concentrate on the US National team and being the STAR at galaxy.

Laurie, this would be the perfect opportunity to start a WAGS&HABS Together page, his wife is beautiful too. But now that I come to think of it, where IS that page — aside from the many free-standing and scantilly atired adorable couples, imagine the sordid and scandalous instances of incorrect combos, or serial combos or multi-combos!!!…as always your instincts are perfect (or almost always, but let’s skip the official topic here for the sake of this a brilliant idea, I probably won’t even ask for a commission…must go find number of copyright office…).

Everyone relax, despite the post topic, I was referring to Maldini’s wife.
