It was announced today that, after weeks of training with the team, Charlie Davies has signed a 12-month loan to DC United from France’s FC Sochaux. The 24 year old American striker spent the past 16 months out of Sochaux’s starting roster as he recovered from the December 2009 car crash that cost him his spot in the 2010 World Cup, and which, incidentally, took place only miles from what will be his new home at RFK Stadium. Frustrated after being sent down to play with the reserves, Davies said change was needed. “I needed a new atmosphere and new environment, and I found it,” Davies said. “I’m extremely excited and happy. I haven’t felt this way in a while….. Those (reserve) games were very, very difficult for me. Not just to play with that group, but mentally it was very difficult going into each one of those games. A lot of it was just like, ‘All right Charlie, let’s just get through this game. You know you don’t want to be playing here. You don’t want to be playing with the reserves. You want to be playing with the first team. You want to get your chance.”

Davies will add a keen goal scoring eye and an array of footskill to DC’s front line, which looks ready for a new start under coach Ben Olsen. As for fitness, if, his three goals and two assists for the U-2o National team last week, Olsen reports that Davis is, “on the way back to being the Charlie of old”.

So, what do you think? Will Davies have a break out year, or is his fitness still an issue? What do you think?

I think Davies will have a great year. After 16 months of rehab, I’m sure he is both mentally and physically ready to play, especially since he’s been training and playing with the Sochaux reserves since April 2010 and training with DC United the last few weeks.

WHo actually cares about yanky football, they should stick to throwing baskets or watever is it those crap sports that no other country plays are. EVRY country has an official or unofficial registered football team, no one has an american football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey (gay much) team. so stop cloggin up the space that real leagues need, premier league (best ;league in the world competitiveness wise), la liga (has the best players but part from top 3/4 rest of teams are shite) bundesliga and masybe serie a. MlS is bog standard football, david beckham, a part time footballer, is the best there is there.. he would’nt start for wigan in the EPL. So f..k of yanks.

The “English” Premier League is Yankee football you dolt. We own all the teams. Well at least the ones that matter. Nobody gives a damn about Wigan. If you don’t behave we might just move those franchises across the pond and have them join MLS. Then you’ll be stuck watching Seria A or the Bundesliga to get your soccerball fix.
