Taking Over The Attendance Reigns

I may be proud of my little corner of the web, but I still read a number of MLS blogs as avidly as anyone else. One of my favorites of these is MajorLeagueSoccerTalk.com, the MLS-based cousin of such known sites as EPL Talk and Champions League Talk (clearly, a good amount of talking is taking place). One of my main reliances on this website was for their consistent coverage of weekly attendance. However, this coverage has stopped with the 2011 season.

Thus, considering it necessary that at least one person keep an eye out for attendance, I’ll be starting my own MLS Offside Attendance Ticker. It may not be nearly as detailed as that from MLST, but it’ll sure beat nothing. So here’s some numbers from the past week (from the Revs- Vancouver match last Wednesday to yesterday’s Vancouver- Houston game):

Revs at Vancouver: 19,396
Colorado at Dallas: 12,261
Chicago at Seattle: 36,223
NY at Philly: 19,027
RSL at Revs: 7,970
LA at DC: 26,622
Columbus at Chivas: 13,385
Toronto at San Jose: 8,928
Whitecaps at Houston: 12,047
OVERALL AVERAGE: 17,317.67

Overall, an up and down week. Seattle was their usual self, and LA, Vancouver, and Philly were strong. On the flip side Houston and Dallas were pretty bad, while San Jose and the Revs were absolutely abysmal.

So there it is. I’ll try to add more detail next week.

Great to see United pulling in strong numbers again. Davies is having a noticeable impact. The fans are clearly still there, its just a matter of getting a building that fits.

San Jose’s stadium currently holds around 10,000 at most. They are building a soccer-specific stadium that can house 18,000 I believe.

Looking forward for the Livestrong Sporting Park in KC. Much excited about this stadia. And this is a soccer specific stadium scheduled to be opened before the Concacaf matche between Panama & Canada in June. The facilities they offer made me awestruck. :-)

Check out http://members.shaw.ca/scolantonio/MLS_Attendance/Welcome.html for a complete breakdown of MLS attendance 2011. Instead of expansion, maybe its time to move a couple of franchises such as New England and Columbus?

Why did they give San Jose another team?, MLS keeps pretending that residents there care about soccer, obviously there was a reason the first Earthquake team left and moved to Houston, so why give them another team?

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
